Most jacks are, or can be, engineered and certified under API F4 (Specifications for Drilling and Well Servicing Structure) and AISC 335-89 (Specification for structural steel buildings). Jacks can be equipped with safety systems to prevent jack retraction in the event of hydraulic loss, and green initiatives in the form of dry brake couplers.
